Pleyel, Red "Chinoiserie"

Red “Chinoiserie” Parcel-Gilt Grand Piano

An important French red-painted and parcel-gilt decorated grand piano in the Louis XV “Chinoiserie” style by the house of Pleyel, Lyon & Cie., Paris. The shaped case, raised on six acanthus-carved cabriole supports, terminating in hoof sabots, depicts overall trees, blossoms, exotic birds and butterflies, elegantly matched with a serpentine foliate-carved apron embellished with gilt fleurs-de-lys.

The lyre-shaped pedal support bears matching gilt fleur-de-lys, the open rectangular music desk, fallboard and interior rim are all decorated in satinwood, and the piano is complemented by a silk-damask-upholstered duet stool en suite. This piano has been completely restored by Klavierhaus with original ivory keys intact.

The inscription inside the piano dates the instrument, from the Pleyel, Lyon & Cie. company records circa 1890. Dimensions: 7’3” deep, 6’11” wide, 35” high.
